As is generally known, prefinal ending `-eoss-` in Modern Korean was originated from the syntactic construction `-eo is-` in Middle Korean. But most current Korean linguists insist that there is no certain relevance between prefinal ending `-eoss-` and syntactic construction `-eo iss-`. The purpose of this study is to verify the relevance between the prefinal ending `-eoss-` and the syntactic construction `-eo iss-` in modern Korean. By examining closely whether `-eoss-` in `-eosskess-` and `-eossteo-` means `past tence` or `the present state`, and we can find that `-eoss-` does not mean `past tense` but represents `the present state`.
